Manuel Locatelli has enjoyed his time at Sassuolo so far, but his ambition is to return ‘to a top club and play in the most important competitions’.
The 22-year-old moved from Milan to Sassuolo on a permanent deal last summer, after spending 2018-19 on loan at the MAPEI Stadium.
He has impressed during his time under Roberto De Zerbia and has pointed out that his spell in Emilia-Romagna has helped him develop.
“These years here at Sassuolo have served me well,” he told Sassuolo fans on Instagram. “They have shaped me to become a man and have given me a lot of confidence in my football, made me understand what I need to improve.
“We have a large group and we are all united. The relationship with my teammates is really nice. Previously, Peluso and Matri pulled my ears when they had to, Pegolo the same, Magnanelli, Consigli. Even Berardi, Sernicola, the same for Ciccio [Francesco Caputo].
“Really, there’s a large group here that I will never forget.”
And after having claimed that he will never forget his teammates at the Neroverdi he moves on to talk about his ambitions for the future and a move to a top club.
“Going back to a top club and playing in the most important competitions, that’s my target,” he said. “I hope to do so as soon as possible, and I keep on working and have the dedication that is required every day.”
Looking back at his time at Milan, Locatelli pointed out Jeremy Menez as most talented player he had ever shared the pitch with and said: “I have to admit that I played with many great players, but the talent I saw in Menez was something incredible.”
