President of the Italian Coaches Association Renzo Ulivieri hit out at clubs trying to cut player wages. “We do not appreciate the master-style tone of their approach.”

The Serie A clubs have so far failed to agree terms with the Players’ Association on how big a slice to take out of salaries during the coronavirus shutdown.

The Serie A clubs have so far failed to agree terms with the Players’ Association on how big a slice to take out of salaries during the coronavirus shutdown.

Now the players have gained an important ally in the union of coaches, in the form of former Bologna boss Ulivieri.

“The Lega Serie A statement seemed impromptu, considering we still don’t know what is going to happen this season,” said Ulivieri.

“There are laws and FIGC rules that dictate positions on this. It is not the time to create controversy. We above all do not appreciate the master-style tone of their approach.

“Our coaches at the top level immediately said they were ready to contribute, but we must remember that many football clubs have employees including coaches, staff and collaborators who earn even less than the average national wage.

“It is inadmissible to even consider reducing their salaries. It would lack humanity.”
