Cassano: 'Sorry Capello, those parties with Pep'

Antonio Cassano gave a typically raucous Instagram interview on apologising to Fabio Capello, partying with Pep Guardiola in Rome, being “handsomer” than David Beckham and working with Marcelo Bielsa.

The now retired striker was never one to hold back and let loose with memories of his career.

“I had one of my best pre-seasons with ‘Don Fabio’ At Real Madrid, as I lost 10kg and reached 82kg. He started me in the first two games of the season, then rested me for the third. However, I got angry with him… I have to apologise to Capello, all these years later, and acknowledge that was my fault. I put him through a lot…

“David Beckham was my teammate at Real Madrid and he was like a rock star, known all over the world, but he remained humble. I was handsomer than him, at least a bit…” laughed FantAntonio.

His weight ballooned, although Cassano assures it was a worse situation being around the Roman cuisine and nightlife.

“My favourite foods are pasta alla gricia, carbonara and amatriciana. Now you know why I was in that shape at Roma! Guardiola is my friend, we got along well together when playing for Roma. One summer I was in Monaco for a tournament and heard my name being called. It was Guardiola, who wanted me to tell his friends about the ‘trouble’ we got ourselves into at night in Rome.

“Pep was a fantastic player and is a great coach. His strength is convincing top players to adopt his style of football and he’s the only one in the world who has that charisma.”

However, Cassano has one tactician that he would love to work with, and it’s someone with a similar ‘Loco’ temperament.

“If one day I become director of sport at a club, I’ll do everything to hire Bielsa. He is a revolutionary of football, has so much character. I’d love to work with him.”
