Sticchi Damiani: 'A case of force majeure'

Lecce President Saverio Sticchi Daminani has claimed the current financial crisis in football ‘can’t only weigh on the players’.

The Italian players’ union (AIC) failed to reach an agreement with Lega Serie A two days ago, but it was later announced that 19 top-flight clubs had voted on an unanimous reduction.

The Giallorossi patron spoke about the possible resumption of the Serie A season and the financial issues leading to a heated debate about player salaries.

“It’s not an issue that depends on us, but the health authorities,” he told Radio Kiss Kiss. “We are available to the Lega, FIGC and UEFA based on what the medical protocols will indicate.”

“We are faced with a case of force majeure that has blocked the performances and when the clubs will have to sit down with the players, we will need clarity on the legal framework and how the situation should be regulated.

“That is, if you don’t play, the performance is not due. The crisis, however, can’t only weigh on the players.”
