The delay in the European Championships until 2021 gives Cagliari centre-forward Leonardo Pavoletti hope. “I want to be fully recovered and have my say.”
The tournament was meant to be in June 2020, which would’ve ruled out Pavoletti, as he only recently underwent knee surgery for his second anterior cruciate ligament rupture in six months.
However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, it has been pushed back until next summer.
“It’s only right for me to have some hope now that they have moved the Euros,” Pavoletti told Sky Sport Italia.
“I want to be fully recovered and have my say when it comes around.”
Pavoloso will be 32 by that time, but remains one of the most effective headers of the ball in Italian football.
Before the double injury, he had scored 29 goals in 69 competitive games for Cagliari.
He also found the net in his one and only senior Italy cap in March 2019, a 6-0 victory over Liechtenstein.
