Rakitic has fallen down Barca’s pecking order this season and has only one year left on his contract.

“I’ll be the one who decides. I’m not a sack of potatoes,” he told Mundo Deportivo.

“I want to play for a club where I am loved and respected, where my family can be happy.

“Like I’ve always said, Barca is the perfect place for me. What I want is to have fun and help my team.

“I had a very strange first part of the season, which was surprisingly negative for me, but I have to learn several things from it and improve.

“Sometimes things happen that you don’t understand, but you don’t have to understand them. You have to accept them.

“I hope to see out my contract. If not then we’ll sit down together, but for now the most important thing is to be in peak condition and finish the season in the best possible way.

“Everything will be analysed, but my idea is to see out my contract.”

The 31-year-old has been linked with the likes of Juventus, Inter and Milan in recent months, and he was asked whether Italy was an option.

“I repeat, I understand the situation I’m in, but I’ll decide what’s best for my family and I.”
