The Denmark international has only started once in Serie A since his €20m transfer from Tottenham Hotspur but the former Verona star has encouraged Inter fans to give him time.

“It has been a difficult start for him, but he will have a good time soon,” Elkjaer told Ekstrabladet. “As he’s getting a breather, he has time to think about why he had those problems. There may be many reasons.

“I don’t think Conte understood the position Eriksen should have. In Italy you would like to have passion. Passion means a lot in Italian football and Eriksen has a different character, or he shows it in his own way.

“Maybe the Italians have not learned to know him yet. He’s not a boy who enters and takes control of the game. That’s not how he behaves, but his qualities will be seen with time.”
