Cagliari are reportedly looking to appoint Lecce’s Fabio Liverani as their coach for next season.

Cagliari started the 2019-20 campaign strongly and looked like competing for a European spot at one stage.

However, their form nosedived and Rolando Maran was sacked to make way for Walter Zenga.

Zenga was only hired on March 3 and the coronavirus pandemic has prevented him from debuting in the dugout.

Now, Sky Sport Italia claims the journeyman could already be replaced by Liverani, without presiding over a single match.

The ex-Lazio midfielder guided Lecce to successive promotions between 2017 and 2019, culminating in their spot in this season’s Serie A.

Despite being currently in the relegation zone, the Salentini are level on points with 17th-placed Genoa.
