After today’s meeting, a plan was drawn up to declare the Serie C season finished as of now, blocking relegation and promoting the three regional group leaders, plus a fourth team to be decided in a blind draw.

It was calculated that the cost of following Government guidelines on social distancing, testing for coronavirus and cleaning would cost each Serie C club at least €35,000.

“We need funds yesterday, not tomorrow,” President Ghirelli told TuttoC.

“We need redundancy payments yesterday, credit yesterday, football-saving measures yesterday, the postponement of taxes and national insurance contributions done yesterday, otherwise we won’t survive.

“Just to be clear, we don’t need this today, but yesterday. We’ll discuss the strategic plan on May 4, but also what needs to be reformed and cut.

“On the one hand, we require liquidity, but on the other we must increase checks to catch those trying to take advantage of the situation. Never mind one or two clubs going under, we risk default here.”
