Rudi Garcia assures he is happy at Olympique Lyonnais, but would love to return and win something at Roma one day. “That really would be magical.”
The former Giallorossi coach spoke to Sky Sport Italia this evening and it sparked a wave of nostalgia.
“I am very happy at Lyon now, so obviously I hope to continue here and win something, but you can never say never to a return. Coming back to Roma one day would be truly wonderful.

The former Giallorossi coach spoke to Sky Sport Italia this evening and it sparked a wave of nostalgia.
“I am very happy at Lyon now, so obviously I hope to continue here and win something, but you can never say never to a return. Coming back to Roma one day would be truly wonderful.
“We could’ve carried on together at the time, but that is football. It’s not just about what the coach wants, you pay for decisions and it can happen that you don’t have time to recover from a series of bad results.
“The anxiety can make clubs forget everything that came before that, so in this line of work you know that you’ve always got to keep your suitcase packed.
“I was contacted by other Italian clubs, both when I was at Roma and afterwards, but things didn’t go any further.”
There was a slight blast from the past in the Champions League, when Garcia’s Lyon took on Juventus and won the first leg 1-0.
The trip to Turin was postponed by the COVID-19 outbreak and it’s likely that won’t be played now until August.
“I hope that soon we can be in a condition where we can play in Turin. I also hoped to play against Roma one day, hopefully in the Champions League.
“Francesco Totti is a man who means a lot to me and played a big part in my career. It was an honour to have him as my captain. I am proud of the journey we had together at Roma and the fact we troubled a Juventus side that picked up 100 points in a season is already an achievement.
“I will never forget the Roma fans, one of the best in the world. When they sing, celebrate a goal, not just the Curva Sud, but everyone. I hope this club can win something soon. I have no regrets, but a trophy at Roma really would’ve been magical. Why not return one day and try again?”
When he was on the Roma touchline, Garcia famously made a ‘violin’ gesture to protest refereeing decisions and the protests of his Juventus opponents.
“I have no regrets. Supporting your own team does not mean lacking respect for other clubs. Look at me now, I went from ex-Marseille manager to Lyon, two bitter rivals. I didn’t think it was possible.”
