Marcello Lippi has backed former Roma and Italy midfielder Daniele De Rossi to embark on a ‘successful’ coaching career.
Lippi knows De Rossi well, having won the 2006 World Cup with the midfielder, who hung up his boots in January and has plans of becoming a tactician.
“I’ll say about him what I’ve said about all the great champions I’ve coached, which is that, beyond being great champions, they were great men,” the 71-year-old told Corriere dello Sport.

“He’s also a wonderful person and he’ll be able to involve everyone who will work alongside him, whether it’s as a coach or sporting director.
“I don’t know what he’ll end up doing. I think he’ll become a coach, but either way he’ll be successful because he has great qualities.”
