Aleksandar Kolarov aims to end his career at Roma when his contract expires in June 2022. “I don’t feel old and I have two years to think about my future.”
The 34-year-old is still going strong and featured in 32 competitive games for Roma this season, contributing six goals and five assists.
“I’ve been thinking for a while about the future, seeing as I am no longer young,” the Serbian told DAZN Italia.
“I don’t feel old, but most of my career is behind me now. I’ve had some plans for the last couple of years. I still see myself as a player, I feel good physically and have a lot to give.
“After my playing career is over, I still want to stay in the world of football, but I couldn’t tell you in what role. I have another two years to think about it.”
Kolarov is one of the top free kick specialists in Serie A, having grown up watching Sinisa Mihajlovic.
“My brother and I would play in the courtyard outside the house, kicking the ball against a wooden gate. If you hit it in a specific spot, it made a really loud noise and the neighbours would get angry, so I aimed right for it.
“The run-up is the most important thing with a free kick, as if I get my body in the right position, I can see the goalkeeper and the net, reach the ball with my foot in the right place. If I feel good during the run-up, I know there’s a very good chance the goalkeeper is picking that one out the back of the net.
“My favourite ever free kick was against Bologna. Roma were dominating and losing, but I got us back on level terms with that free kick and then we won the game at the last second.”
