Italy 2006 squad donates ambulances

Alessandro Del Piero announced the fund-raising initiative from the 2006 World Cup winning Italy squad had been able to purchase four ambulances.

They were donated to the Italian Red Cross to help deal with the COVID-19 pandemic.

“They are ultramodern, with new bio-containment systems and at the end of this pandemic (which we hope is soon), can be used normally too,” wrote Del Piero on Instagram.

“It’s a sign of destiny that we raised enough for four ambulances, as four is also the number of World Cups won by Italy. Thank you again to everyone, we proved the importance of being one big team!”

The Azzurri had come together to raise funds using social media, which included donating jerseys for auction.
