The Czech coach has praised the Partenopei captain, who has played 336 times at Napoli since coming up through the ranks in 2010.

Despite loan spells at Cavese, Foggia and Pescara, Insigne has remained a Napoli man from day one and Zeman – who himself only lasted eight matches in charge of the Azzurri between July and November in 2000-01 – claimed the 28-year-old is the last club symbol in Italian football.

“Lorenzo is the last club symbol for me,” he told Il Corriere dello Sport. “He’s the best Italian footballer, one of a few who can make the difference.

“He’s a Neapolitan who feels like one and who I hope will remain in his city, like Francesco did. Except that Totti, in Rome, was never challenged.”
