Fiorentina owner Rocco Commisso confirms he ‘won’t stand in the way’ of Federico Chiesa joining Juventus, ‘as long as the price is right’.
Commisso had always maintained that Chiesa would not follow Federico Bernardeschi and Roberto Baggio to Juve, who are traditionally Fiorentina’s arch-rivals, but he has now softened his stance.
“Chiesa has to make a decision and, if he wants to leave, I won’t stand in his way, as long as the price is right,” he told Gazzetta dello Sport.
“How much is Lautaro’s release clause? €111m? I could take off a million for Chiesa... I’m just kidding!
“Chiesa knows what Fiorentina are all about, who Rocco is and what he’ll find here in the future. If he goes elsewhere, I don’t know.
“If he wants to go to Juve there are no vetoes for certain clubs, but right now I have a splendid relationship with Federico and his father.”
The Italo-American tycoon was then asked about another of the Viola’s young stars, Gaetano Castrovilli.
“I’ve liked this lad from day one. He’s phenomenal, always smiling. I like how our young talents give us credit, Barone, Prade, Iachini, Ferrari, Antognoni, Dainelli, a whole working group.
Franck Ribery is coming to the end of his first season in Florence, so how has the former Bayern Munich winger fared in Commisso’s eyes?
“He’s a leader, like I was when I played, even though he’s a champion and I was just a young lad at university. Leaders are precious.”
Finally, the 70-year-old was pressed on the future of coach Beppe Iachini.
“There are still 12 games to play so we’ll see, but I like Iachini. I have a splendid relationship with him outside of football too.
“He’s averaging 1.5 points per game. If this goes on...”
