Lazio director Igli Tare agrees with Marco Parolo that footballers are being discriminated against and asks why Juventus and Inter ‘haven’t taken a side’.

Lazio are just a point behind Juventus at the top of Serie A, but Tare stressed he was campaigning for the season to resume ‘for the sake of the Italian football system’.

“We were all surprised, we’ve respected every decision made by the Italian government, but May 4 was supposed to be the starting point,” he told Lazio Style Radio.

“We feel discriminated against. I heard the words of Minister of Sport Spadafora, who said he wanted to think about protecting people’s health.

“But then he lets people run in parks among other people instead of giving us the possibility of training at sports complexes with all the appropriate safety measures.

“Activity has been stopped for two months, which is too long to encourage a restart of the season.

“I don’t know what its purpose is, but it certainly isn’t to help football. His decisions are drastic, to stop us from playing again.

“We’re aware of the situation and we need to be much more attentive to the sacrifices being made by people, but this isn’t a good thing.

“Football is a very important social factor for the country: we don’t want to reopen the stadiums. We just want to end the season, respecting the rules.

“We’ve won the chance to win the title on the pitch, but 12 games are still remaining and a talking about a possible title success is a bold thing to say.

“Most of all, we want to finish the season for the sake of the Italian football system.”

Whereas the Aquile have been vocal in their desire to see the campaign concluded, their Scudetto rivals have stayed quiet…

“In Germany, the President of its FA and the leaders of the big clubs have all taken a clear position on restarting, which involves continuity of the country’s football system.

“The same doesn’t hold true for Italy and I can’t explain why teams like Juventus and Inter haven’t taken a side.

“Protocols must be respected, there’s no doubt about it.”
