The Argentine Football Association (AFA) has decided to abandon all of its professional competitions in response to the coronavirus crisis.

It comes just three days after the Eredivisie in Netherlands was indefinitely suspended for the same reason.

“All competitions are over, and tomorrow this decision will be ratified by the executive committee, which will take place by conference call,” AFA President Claudio Tapia told TNT Sports.

It comes just three days after the Eredivisie in Netherlands was indefinitely suspended for the same reason.

“All competitions are over, and tomorrow this decision will be ratified by the executive committee, which will take place by conference call,” AFA President Claudio Tapia told TNT Sports.

“We’ll only return to the pitch when the health authorities give us the green light. In short, we’ll only play when the time is right.”

Boca Juniors were already crowned Superliga champions in March, while Diego Maradona’s Gimnasia La Plata finished 19th out of 24 teams.

However, the second part of the season – the Copa de la Superliga – had just commenced and was due to run until May 31.

Ole reports relegations have been postponed for two seasons but two teams will be promoted from the second tier, extending the Superliga to 26 teams in 2020-21 and 28 in 21-22.

Boca, River Plate, Racing Club and Argentinos Juniors will qualify for the 20-21 Copa Libertadores, with Velez Sarsfield, San Lorenzo, Newell’s Old Boys, Talleres, Defensa y Justicia and Lanus going into the Copa Sudamericana.
