Lazio President Claudio Lotito slammed the “illogical rule that will see Ciro Immobile and Edin Dzeko go jogging in the Villa Borghese park” and banned from their training grounds.
The Government decree has been roundly criticised by players, coaches and clubs, as while regular citizens can go running in the open air from May 4, professional athletes in team sports cannot enter a training ground until May 18.
“We know with certainty that this coronavirus isn’t going to disappear quickly, so we’re going to have to learn to live with it,” Lotito told TG2.
“It’s important to get people to understand the importance that football plays in society. If football doesn’t resume, we will have serious, irreparable damage worth hundreds and hundreds of millions.
“That Government decree is illogical. Someone who competes in an individual sport can train in a centre. A player in a team sport cannot train at all.
“We’ll end up seeing Ciro Immobile and Edin Dzeko jogging in the Villa Borghese park, Lorenzo Insigne along the seafront in Naples. It’s absurd.
“Quite aside from Lazio’s current position in the table, I have always tried to avoid irreparable damage to the football system, considering fans and the industry.”
