Milan are ready to offer Gianluigi Donnarumma a contract extension, but only until June 2022 with a pay cut, according to reports.

The goalkeeper’s current deal is due to expire in June 2021, which means the very real risk of losing their most precious player as a free transfer is looming large.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport and Tuttosport, they are trying to work out how to if not resolve the issue entirely, then at least postpone it until there is a little more certainty.

That means an extension to June 2022, but with a slight salary cut from the current €6m per season to €5m.

The difference would be covered by a substantial bonus to be paid if Milan qualify for the Champions League.

Donnarumma and agent Mino Raiola seem content to remain at San Siro, but the financial details are going to be tricky to work out.

Much depends on what offers come in for the goalkeeper this summer and if they are satisfactory for all concerned.

The usual suspects remain interested, such as Juventus, PSG, Chelsea and Real Madrid.
