Now, Pellegrini has joined the calls to let footballers return to work, asserting ‘there are conditions for training safely’ and that ‘thousands’ face hardship with no football.

“We can only hope that the season, in safe conditions, will restart: not only for sporting reasons but also to avoid disastrous economic consequences for the thousands of people who work in the world of football and their families,” he tweeted.

“Our desire is to return to the field… there are conditions for training safely in sports complexes and we hope to do it as soon as possible.”
