Rangnick has been heavily linked with leading a youth revolution at Milan this summer, but talk of his appointment has not gone down universally well with fans.

“We met when I was in Germany,” continued Ancelotti during his Instagram Live session.

“I don’t know him personally but, from what I’ve read, he was in love with Sacchi’s Milan. I don’t know his methods.

“Milan are afraid of bad coaches, not foreign ones. Luckily, they’ve chosen many good ones. The luck of a coach is linked to how stable a club is.”

The former Napoli and Juventus boss then praised the longevity of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who returned to San Siro in January at the age of 38.

“I’m not surprised that he’s still playing. I don’t know how much longer he’ll keep playing for.

“I liked him very much in terms of character, he’s selfless. He was very attentive to club matters. That’s very important for a coach.”
