Newcastle United’s interest in Kalidou Koulibaly is real and Napoli value the defender at €80m, reports Sky Sports.

Links between Newcastle and Koulibaly first surfaced in France last week, and Sky has now doubled down on the speculation.

As per the broadcaster, the Magpies will swoop for the 29-year-old if their Saudi takeover goes through.

In turn, the Senegalese ‘could be interested’ in making the move to St James’ Park, providing the transfer of ownership takes place.

However, 90min has countered with the line that the prospective Saudi owners would prefer a British backbone for Newcastle.

With that in mind, the website writes Roma defender Chris Smalling – currently on loan from Manchester United – is on a ‘homegrown hitlist’.

Roma have yet to negotiate a permanent deal for Smalling, who is quoted to have an asking price of £25m (€28.6m).
