Federico Chiesa insists he is in no rush to leave Fiorentina, acknowledging he needs time to ‘become a more complete player' and is not in any negotiations.

The versatile winger has been constantly at the centre of transfer gossip for months now, with Juventus, Inter, Manchester United, PSG, Arsenal and Chelsea all linked.

“There are no negotiations, there is Fiorentina,” he told the Corriere dello Sport newspaper. “I do not have an agent, so I speak to the club and my father (former Fiorentina and Parma striker Enrico Chiesa) is always by my side. He is like my personal assistant!

“We never even considered hiring an agent, but I don’t know if that will continue in future. The rumour linking me with Francesco Totti’s agency was fake news and he was the first to contact the club to clarify that.

“I’ve spoken so much to the President, Joe Barone and Daniele Pradè over the last year, but I am concentrated only on the present. I focus on working every day, achieving immediate objectives, first and foremost securing safety. We just hope to get back to playing and the rest will follow.”

Chiesa was asked what he would do if Juventus or Inter came calling?

“My objective is to improve in general, not just on a technical level, because I am the first to acknowledge that I need to become a more complete player.

“Paulo Sousa, who gave me my debut, but also Stefano Pioli told me often that football is first and foremost played in the mind. My nature brings me to give everything and not measure out my energy levels, but that generosity can often compromise my performance, as I lack sharpness in front of goal.

“I have to improve, improve and improve, score more regularly if I want to get close to my Dad, who scored 138 in Serie A.”

Chiesa has remarkable versatility, but that too can be an issue when it comes to choosing a tactical role.

“I’ve played all over the place. Sousa used me as the wing-back in a five-man midfield, Pioli as a more advanced winger. Vincenzo Montella used me in the front two and Beppe Iachini feels I am a right-sided striker.

“I really think the fact Euro 2020 is getting moved to next summer is good for someone who, like me and Nicolò Zaniolo, will have the chance to grow and gain experience.”
