Gerson’s agent-father claims it is ‘thanks to God we managed to leave Roma’ and that Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are both keen on the midfielder.
Gerson played just 42 times for Roma between 2016 and 2019 before leaving for Flamengo, where he has already won the Brazilian league and Copa Libertadores.
“We’d already done everything with Barcelona, but they only wanted to pay €8m and, since Fluminense really needed the money, we decided to do a deal with Roma, given they offered €16m,” Marcao told Yahoo Esportes.
“They wanted him to sign with a proper agent. We couldn’t even find a house to move into. We stayed at a hotel for three months.
“Whenever we tried to rent out a place, we had to talk to a businessman, whose name I don’t even want to say.
“We only managed to get it sorted once we talked to Totti and we took one of his apartments.
“I remember Gerson scored two goals against Fiorentina, but then he never played again.
“Once they made him play on the wing, without giving him any type of training, to mark Higuain. Thank God we managed to leave Roma.”
The 22-year-old’s performances for Flamengo have not gone unnoticed...
“No-one knew about [interest from] Arsenal before but, now that I’m saying it, everyone will.
“Borussia Dortmund and Tottenham are also tracking him, but for now we’re only talking about enquiries.”
