Genoa President Enrico Preziosi has likened abandoning the Serie A season to the ‘apocalypse’ and a ‘disaster’.

Genoa lifted themselves out of the relegation zone just before the campaign was halted on March 9, and Preziosi made it clear a definitive cancellation was not an option.

“In the event of a definitive stop, an apocalyptic scenario would surface,” he told Radio Rai.

“It would upset all the plans of those who work in the world of football. We’re still waiting to understand what the TV companies will do.

“We’re waiting for agreements to be respected. Genoa would incur losses of between €20-30m, even if we haven’t done the maths properly yet.

“There’s the issue of season tickets and how to compensate the fans… it would be a disaster. I hope the resumption can be a moot point for everyone.”

He added to Gr Parlamento: “We’re checking the health conditions of our players while we await the protocol, but from Monday we’ll start training.

“We still have to understand in which conditions we can start again. Individual training has many limitations, but we’re still ready.

“We were doing well. No-one could’ve possibly foreseen what happened. We can only take note of it, but we have a good squad and if the season starts again then we’ll be ready.

“Completing the season would be the best solution and it’d solve many problems, for example with broadcasters and the FIGC regarding verdicts and relegations.

“A clear and certain photograph can only come out if we take to the field.”
