Even if Nicolò Zaniolo were to recover from injury, UEFA will reportedly not allow Roma to register the attacking midfielder for the Europa League.

Zaniolo was excluded from the list of players eligible in the UEFA tournament after suffering an injury in January and was then ruled out for the rest of the season.

But the forced break could mean the Italy international would be back in time in the event of a resumption and the recovery of football seems to be about 40 days away.

Il Tempo claims several European clubs have asked UEFA to evaluate their registration process and allow the possibility of changing one or two players on the list delivered at the end of the transfer market in January.

But the newspaper claims the European Football Association in Nyon rejects the approach and Roma coach Paulo Fonseca will have to cope without excluded trio Zaniolo, Davide Zappacosta and Juan Jesus.

The Portuguese now hoped to have the youngster back for the round of 16 against Sevilla, but UEFA is not willing to allow the changes, meaning Zaniolo and Zappacosta could only return in Serie A.
