Inzaghi’s men sat one point behind Juventus in Serie A before the forced break, fighting for their third title in history.

Two months later, the season is yet to resume but the teams have returned to individual training before supposedly stepping up the preparations with group training from Monday.

The coach has claimed it will be ‘difficult’ to maintain the same level after the forced break and expects the tough programme will take its toll on his players.

“When the championship stopped, we were doing very well,” Inzaghi told the Corriere dello Sport. “When it resumes, we will try to be ready.

“It’s difficult to start again, like making another retreat. And then we’ll play once every three days.

“If the season hadn’t stopped, we would have played one game a week. Everything will change. We know what will meet us and we will try to make ourselves ready.”

The 44-year-old has stressed the need for change during a 'tight programme' to 'avoid' injury problems.

“We are training with distance and in definite groups, we are trying to slightly increase the workloads to make us ready for the group training.

“With a tight programme, injuries must be avoided, and recovery becomes more tiring. It will be tough, we know.”

Lazio are preparing to deal with the expectations from the fans, who are dreaming of their third crown in Italy.

“Everyone knows it, but I don’t want to say anything, just like on May 14, 2000; before we entered the pitch.”

Inzaghi spoke to the Gazzetta dello Sport about the ‘unique and incredible’ Scudetto season, when the former striker helped the Aquile to an historical double.
