Lazio spokesperson Arturo Diaconale has spoken for the first time since his health emergency, claiming that he received death threats.

Diaconale was admitted to hospital earlier this month, and he revealed in a Facebook post that he underwent head surgery.

“Immediately after the operation, in which my skullcap was opened to remove the malicious intruder who had settled there, I happened to reflect on the fact that the pandemic had not brought about the long-awaited, often in a forceful way, changes on the nature of a country that has by now tended to ruthless cynicism and that is often not very supportive.

“A bitter consideration, mine, which prompted me to read an article published in Corriere della Sera by Stefano Agresti, where news of my surgery was reported, and there was severe condemnation from those who commented on my story on social media, wishing me death among the most atrocious sufferings.”

The 74-year-old then expressed optimism the season would resume, urging Lazio to ‘go get them’ in the race for Serie A supremacy.

“The chances of ending the season in the best way are there for us. Let's take full advantage against everyone and all prejudices.

“Let’s go get them! This time, the wheel can turn in our direction. Forza Lazio and thank you everyone!”
