Dries Mertens is reportedly on the verge of extending his contract with Napoli, in a surprise twist.
Mertens appeared to be on his way to Inter, with the Nerazzurri offering him a two-year deal worth €14m.
However, Sportitalia stresses he did not put pen to paper as Napoli chose to step up negotiations with the forward.
According to the broadcaster, the two-year arrangement involves an initial €4m salary, upped to €4.5m in performance-related addons, and a signing-on bonus.
However, the change in course would have been linked to the 33-year-old’s desire to stay at the San Paolo.
He is also nicknamed ‘Ciro’, as is his allegiance to the Campanian capital.
