Barcelona midfielder Arturo Vidal has claimed Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini’s comments about his drinking were unnecessary and reminded the Old Lady captain: “In football there are codes.”
The Chilean midfielder responded to the latest revelations from Chiellini’s autobiography, as the Bianconeri hero has already caused quite a stir with his criticism of Felipe Melo and Mario Balotelli.
Together, Chiellini and Vidal helped Juventus pick up four Scudetti between 2011 and 2015, but the defender claimed the Barcelona midfielder ‘didn’t show up for training’ after nights out, or, even worse, ‘rather merry’.
Vidal hits out at his former teammate and claims he never went out unless he was allowed to and was ‘annoyed’ when he learned about certain comments.
“People have focused on the worst things Chiellini said,” he told Mario Velasco on Instagram Live. “And I don’t see why one should mention those things, it annoyed me, but he said I was a champion too.
“It wasn’t something I couldn’t do. I was allowed to go out. I’m a human being like everyone else. I work hard and if my friends meet for a BBQ, with the club’s permission, I’ll go too.
“If I have to stay focused, I do it. But when it’s my turn to have fun, I take advantage of it. I’m just like the others. And when I made a mistake, I paid and stood up.”
To conclude, he added: “In football there are codes.”
