New Torino director of sport Davide Vagnati expresses his support for coach Moreno Longo, but warns their Serie A status is far from secure.

The former SPAL transfer guru left his old club earlier this month and made the switch to Toro.

“It is an honour and a heavy responsibility to take on this role,” said Vagnati in his presentation press conference.

“I thank SPAL for the time we spent together, but also thank them for accepting my request to leave.”

There have been reports that coach Longo, who was only appointed in February after Walter Mazzarri’s dismissal, could be at risk for next season.

“We believe that we’ve got the best possible coach, so we have great faith in him and the players. I worked hard the last few days to get to know the club, the staff and the players. I believe in planning and the people who are part of Torino.

“If we act the right way, I am certain we can get great results. However, I spoke to the players and told them the importance of wearing the Torino jersey. We’ve got to go into battle and focus on security safety, which is by no means to be taken for granted.

“We still need to pick up points this season and just having the name Torino is not enough.”
