Torino President Urbano Cairo concedes he ‘had some doubts’ that the Serie A season should resume, but will now prepare his team for June 20.

Minister for Sport Vincenzo Spadafora gave the green light today for the Coppa Italia to pick up from the semi-finals on June 13-14, while Serie A games can be back from June 20.

“I had some doubts,” confessed Cairo to news agency ANSA, as he had been one of the most adamant against restarting during the coronavirus pandemic.

“After the decision has been made to play, I am there ready to push the team on to give its best. We are ready to play, I met with the team at the training ground today, with coach Moreno Longo, director of sport Davide Vagnati, and fired them up with positive messages to get back on the right foot.

“I have a sense of responsibility, so I don’t just think of what interests me, but a more general issue of health and safety for players and other staff. This is why I had doubts.

“Now the decision has been made to play, so I am obviously working to make sure we are ready. Fortunately, the situation seems to have calmed down lately and we hope it can continue like that.”
