Milan are being linked with a surprise move for Burnley and Republic of Ireland midfielder Jeff Hendrick this evening.

Hendrick’s contract with Burnley is due to expire next month and Sky Sports reports Milan have ‘shown an interest’ in the 28-year-old.

However, the broadcaster stresses the Clarets ‘remain hopeful’ of tying him down to an extension.

The Irishman began his career with Derby County, making more than 200 appearances for the Rams before joining Burnley for a club-record £10.5m (€11.8m) in 2016.

He has gone on to play 139 times at Turf Moor, playing Premier League football in each of his four seasons.

Hendrick is also an experienced Republic of Ireland international with 54 caps and two goals, representing his country at Euro 2016.

It comes after the Rossoneri tried to sign Antonee Robinson from English Championship side Wigan Athletic in January.
