The 2019-20 Champions League Final will be held away from Istanbul, reports The New York Times.
The Ataturk Olympic Stadium was due to host its second Final after Milan’s lost penalty shootout to Liverpool in 2005.
However, the American newspaper claims it no longer will due to ‘the ongoing crisis brought on by the coronavirus pandemic’.
According to an unnamed person ‘with knowledge of the matter’, talks are ongoing over how to finish this season’s Champions League and where the Final will be played.
“A working group has been set up with the participation of representatives from the leagues and clubs to examine calendar solutions and format options that would allow for the completion of the current season,” a UEFA spokesman told The New York Times.
“A variety of options is being looked at and no decisions have been made at this stage.”
Reports in Spain claim the governing body is pushing towards the Final being hosted in the Portuguese capital of Lisbon.
However, the publication does not rule out Istanbul being given another Final ‘at a later date’.
