Serie A is set to resume on June 20 with the outstanding Week 25 fixtures, including Inter-Sampdoria.

“Returning to the training ground was a wonderful feeling and we are all so determined to do well,” Ranieri told the official club website.

“The most important thing for us is not to put too much pressure on the lads, because I read about the injuries that players in other leagues sustained straight after returning.

“We’re beginning to step up the intensity now, but this whole season is the great unknown, because never in modern football have the teams been out of action for over two months. We’ll see what happens.

“I have banned tackles so far, not because of COVID-19, but to lower the risk of injury. In any case, now we have a start date and I think it’s right to begin with the outstanding games, so everyone can be on a level playing field the week after.

“The important thing is that Sampdoria stay out of the relegation zone, to avoid any nasty surprises.”
