On this day: Milan legends retire

On this day in 1997, Franco Baresi and Mauro Tassotti played their last game for Milan as Cagliari won 1-0 thanks to a goal from Roberto Muzzi.

The Rossoblu travelled to San Siro for the last match of the 1996-97 campaign, when Milan ended 11th in Serie A and bid farewell to their captain fantastic Baresi.

Tassotti, meanwhile, played out of position - alongside Demetrio Albertini in central midfield.

The right-back completed the full 90 minutes before retiring from football after 17 years and 576 matches with the Rossoneri, while Baresi finished on 714 outings in red and black.

Together they won five Scudetti and three European Cups/Champions League as Diavoli, plus four Supercoppe and three European Super Cups.
