Inzaghi targets Serie B records

Benevento coach Filippo Inzaghi has targeted Didier Deschamps record in Serie B and claimed his stint at Milan helped him: “It gave me the belief that I could be a coach.”

The Stregoni sit 20 points above Crotone ahead of the resumption and Inzaghi’s men are unbeaten since a 4-0 defeat to Pescara on October 26, 2019.

Benevento’s away record has been remarkable and Inzaghi has been looking to break the previous records when his team prepare for the return to action.

“We need eight points,” he told La Gazzetta dello Sport. “We have two tough trips to Cremona and Empoli, let’s see.

“We have won seven consecutive games on the road; the record is eight. And the most away wins in the 20-team Serie B is 10 [Torino 2000-01], we are at nine. Winning in Cremona would set the first record.

“Then the other records are there. To beat Dechamps’ Juventus would be massive.”

Inzaghi has already started planning for the return to Serie A next season and claims the transfer market will be challenging for Benevento.

“We always talk about it, but I’m superstitious,” Inzaghi told La Gazzetta dello Sport. “We know who to bring and we have a strong foundation to build on.

“It won’t be a simple market, but we’re going to be there.”

Inzaghi looked back at his coaching experience at Milan and started by claiming that technical director Paolo Maldini should remain at the wheel.

“I hope Paolo Maldini can continue to work because he is the right person to revive Milan,” he said before talking about his own development after his own stint at the Rossoneri.

“A coach must always grow and learn, when winning and losing, watching everyone and learning from everyone.

“That season at Milan gave me the belief that I could be a coach. It was a difficult year, as the following ones were too, and you can look at what happened to those who came after me.

“If the players say [my leadership has grown], then I’m glad. No one ever disrespected me, not even at Milan.

“If a team sees its coach and staff working and giving their best, they recognise it. And working like this, we can do well in Serie A.”
