Govt open to fans in stadiums

Undersecretary for Health Alessandro Zampa confirms the Italian Government could let fans in by the end of this Serie A season. ‘We’ll evaluate the pandemic curve.’

The number of deaths and new COVID-19 cases are dropping steadily and Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte this evening held a press conference confirming the transition into Phase Three of the pandemic response.

With cinemas and theatres reopening soon with social distancing, clubs are asking why stadiums should not be given the same treatment.

“It’s possible that we could discuss it with the scientific technical committee, Minister for Sport Vincenzo Spadafora and Minister for Health Roberto Speranza,” undersecretary for health Zampa told Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli.

“The statistics that come in are going to be very helpful and it’s already a good sign that we are moving towards full freedom of movement between regions.

“We’ll evaluate the pandemic curve and if it does get lower, we can imagine that for the final part of the season, with the efforts of the clubs, we could play games with a partial reopening of the stands.

“If we continue with the curve as it’s going now, we really could return to a normal life in this country.”
