Juventus superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has become the first team sportsperson in history to earn $1bn (€885m) across their playing career.

Forbes positioned Ronaldo second on its list of the World’s Highest-Paid Athletes for 2020, behind only Roger Federer.

However, his earnings of $105m (€93m) before taxes and fees make him the best-paid player in world football.

The Portuguese earned $1m more than arch-rival Lionel Messi in the past year, pocketing $60m from salary/winnings and $45m from endorsements.

Forbes also reports the 35-year-old is only the third player to hit the $1bn mark while still playing after Tiger Woods and Floyd Mayweather.

Although he took a pay cut in order to join Juve in the summer of 2018, Ronaldo is the most popular sportsperson on social media, surpassing 200 million Instagram followers earlier this year.
