Fiorentina owner Rocco Commisso believes Federico Chiesa has ‘understood the ambition we have’ and hopes he becomes one of three ‘club icons’.

Chiesa is about to enter the final two years of his Fiorentina contract, but speculation of a move away has died down in recent weeks and Commisso is confident about keeping the Italy winger.

“Will attention be enough to keep him? I hope so,” he told Corriere dello Sport, 10 years to the day he completed his purchase of the Viola.

“I think Federico’s understood the ambition we have. We’ll aim high in the next five years.

“We want Fiorentina to become a point of arrival and no longer a point of passage for players.”

The 70-year-old was then asked if he was planning to sign any more big names, having brought in Franck Ribery last summer.

“Messi, he’s the best player of them all but the costs involved put him out of our reach.

“I have another desire. I’d like Chiesa, [Gaetano] Castrovilli and [Dusan] Vlahovic to all become Fiorentina icons.”
