Duvan Zapata discusses his heroes, the best defender he ever faced, who would win an Atalanta wrestling match and writing history for La Dea.
It was an extraordinary campaign for the Bergamo club before the lockdown, reaching the Champions League quarter-finals and sitting fourth in Serie A.
“This is the most important moment of my career and I intend to make the most of it,” the Colombian told Atalanta social media channels during a Q&A with fans.
“I am fired up for the season to resume and want to achieve great things. We are preparing to face every game that awaits us in the best possible way.
“I feel so proud for the results we put together over the last year-and-a-half and we can still reach every target we set ourselves.”
It’s remarkable to think this is Atalanta’s first ever Champions League campaign and yet they have already booked their place in the quarter-finals.
“Of the many goals I scored with this jersey, the one I remember with the most pleasure is the first against Shakhtar Donetsk at San Siro. It was an historic goal, Atalanta’s first in this competition.”
The former Napoli, Udinese and Sampdoria centre-forward was asked about some of his favourite players.
“My goal celebration was inspired by Didier Drogba, who is one of my idols along with Thierry Henry, Adriano and Zlatan Ibrahimovic,” continued Duvan Zapata.
“The best defender I ever faced is Kalidou Koulibaly, as he is so tough. I also had him as a teammate for a while at Napoli. Of my current teammates, Hans Hateboer is the strongest and if we were to have a wrestling match in the locker room, I think he would win!”
