The former Fiorentina, Parma, Panathinaikos, Bologna and Genoa coach has not worked since his dismissal at Sassuolo in March 2014.

Despite only turning 66 this month, with some spectacular moments on his CV, he feels that his career is already over.

“The world of football considers me an ex-coach and I don’t think I’ll ever train a team again,” Malesani told the Corriere dello Sport.

“I am still alive and my ideas of football aren’t just of the moment, but if anything ahead of our time. I could still be a coach, but I won’t because people have forgotten me.

“I adore being a coach, I consider it one of the most wonderful professions in the world, but the moment results don’t go your way and the years tick along, you do get forgotten.

“I still believe experience is valuable rather than a hindrance. Big teams win because they have champions with a lot of experience in their ranks, so why shouldn’t it be the same for coaches?”
