Now 31, the Italian-Argentine played his international football for the Azzurri and spent most of his career in Serie A, but is currently back in the Premier League with Brighton.

“I started out as a full-back before I moved to Sporting and now I have returned to that role. Full-backs are more attacking than defending nowadays, so I can make the most of my pace and run at opponents,” Galgo told gianlucadimarzio.com.

It’s safe to say Schelotto never quite lived up to expectations in Italy and there are some decisions he regrets.

“My conscience is clear, because you need to have respect and Inter treated me badly. Many people who are still at the club really let me down. I impulsively tore up my contract, because I didn’t want anything more to do with them. Looking back, it’s not something I’d do again.

“I have great respect for the Inter fans and Massimo Moratti, but the new club changed everything and threw me out. Andrea Stramaccioni had brought me in, so when he was fired, they got rid of all his players too.

“It’s not enough just to wear the Inter jersey in order to be considered great, you must be a great person too and help those who need it.”

This is Schelotto’s second spell at Brighton, because the first ended badly in January 2019.

“It was inexplicable, I really don’t know what happened. On transfer deadline day, after the entire pre-season training retreat, the coach who had wanted me in the first place suddenly said I was third choice full-back. I didn’t play for six months.”

He went on loan to Chievo and suffered a serious knee injury, but returned to Brighton last summer.

“When I came back, there was a new manager, Graham Potter, who told me to just focus on recovering from the injury. I feel he and the club have faith in me.”
