Gigi Buffon maintains he is ‘more fired up than ever’ precisely because he gets fewer opportunities to play for Juventus, as he could make Coppa Italia history.
The 42-year-old goalkeeper has won five editions of this trophy, so a sixth would enable him to equal Roberto Mancini’s record.
Juve face Napoli at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome tomorrow at 20.00 UK time (19.00 GMT).
“I am playing less this season, so naturally when I do step on to the field, I am more fired up than ever,” Buffon told DAZN.
“The real secret to getting top performances is to cut down on the number of games you play, many of which don’t really grab you by the soul, so the ones I do play are experienced with great intensity.
“Of course, I am also physically well-rested and therefore in good shape, too.”
The Coppa Italia will be completed tomorrow, then Serie A fixtures return from June 20.
“I think it’s important for society too, because we all need something after these difficult months that can create an emotional response and get people stirred up.”
