Napoli goalkeeper Alex Meret celebrated the first trophy of his career, especially winning the Coppa Italia against Juventus. ‘Gigi Buffon proved he’s still Number One.’

The game ended 0-0 on the night, thanks largely to Buffon heroics, and the Partenopei eventually won 4-2 on penalties.

“It’s so exciting, I think we had a great journey, showed we could suffer at moments and proved we could play in others,” the goalkeeper told RAI Sport.

“It’s so exciting, I think we had a great journey, showed we could suffer at moments and proved we could play in others,” the goalkeeper told RAI Sport.

“We gave everything from the first minute to the last, I am truly so proud to be part of this team. The coach and President said they are proud of us too.”

Buffon is Meret’s hero and the 42-year-old put in an excellent performance this evening.

“Gigi is still the Number One, he proved that tonight with three or four huge saves. It’s an honour for me to play against someone who was and is still my idol, so that makes it all the more special.

“The coach makes his decisions, I wanted to be ready when called upon and I am pleased with my performance.

“We brought home the Coppa, which was one of our objectives, now we have to maintain this spirit, try to climb the table and keep it going.”
