Newcastle United are emerging as the favourites for Roma striker Patrik Schick after the RB Leipzig option to buy clause expired.

Schick spent this season on loan in Germany at a cost of €3.5m with an option to buy for a further €29m.

Despite 10 goals in 21 Bundesliga appearances so far, RB Leipzig feel they cannot pay the agreed price and are trying to negotiate it down.

The deadline has now passed for the clause, so Roma are free to discuss his future with other clubs too.

La Gazzetta dello Sport had already pointed towards the Premier League, with Tottenham Hotspur, Everton and Newcastle United all candidates.

Now the Daily Mail insists Newcastle are genuinely interested, especially if Roma allow the loan with obligation to buy for the 24-year-old Czech international.
