Atalanta defender Mattia Caldara has vowed to show that ‘I’m still the player people saw in Bergamo before I left’.

Caldara returned to Atalanta in January after two years of injury hell at Milan, managing just two appearances in all competitions and not featuring at all in Serie A.

“Right now, I’m not thinking about the future,” he told Corriere di Bergamo.

“I’m focused on the present and I want to show that I’m still the player people saw in Bergamo before I left.

The 26-year-old has already proved his fitness since moving back to Bergamo, playing five times before the coronavirus lockdown.

“The injuries didn’t help. The constant problems prevented me from training well.

“Luckily, I’ve recovered on a physical level and, like I said, I’ll fight to return to my usual levels on the pitch.”
