Fabio Quagliarella will miss Sampdoria’s Serie A match against Inter on Sunday with a calf injury.
Sky Sport Italia reports Quagliarella has yet to resume training since picking up the problem in a training match last weekend.
“I don’t want to risk him,” Samp boss Claudio Ranieri said at his press conference for the game earlier.
“He hasn’t looked great for 3-4 days, so I want to leave him to rest.
“With three games a week to play, we’d risk losing him for a long time if he played.
“We’ll make assessments with our [club] doctor tomorrow, but in principle he won’t be available.”
The 37-year-old becomes the second player to be ruled out of the fixture after Inter midfielder Stefano Sensi.
