Ivan Juric continues to insist Verona are focused on securing safety, even after beating Cagliari 2-1 to move into seventh place. ‘I don’t stop anyone dreaming.’
This was the rescheduled Week 25 fixture from February, which allowed them to move within a point of sixth-placed Napoli.
“It was a very important game, as we must secure our safety as soon as possible. I will admit, my reactions were a bit over the top, as we’d been waiting so long for this match,” Juric told DAZN.
“I also got angry because we were dominating, should’ve scored more than two goals and then had this red card that was completely unfair.
“All I will say is that the objective for us and the club is to ensure we stay in Serie A. After that, we’ll push to the end and then we’ll see, but first we need to get the basics sorted out.
“I don’t rule anything out, I don’t stop anyone dreaming. I just want to get as many points as possible, that is the objective.”
Samuel Di Carmine scored both goals, but was substituted after the restart for Mattia Zaccagni after Hellas went down to 10 men.
“I wanted to play more with ball to feet and the midfielders pushing up, like Emmanuel Badu and Sofyan Amrabat, so Zaccagni was more suitable for that role.
“These lads enjoy spending time together, playing football and training, so I didn’t have problems getting them working again. The only issues we had after the lockdown was in terms of fitness and injuries.
“I want to single out Badu, because he really has been through everything over the last year. He was in hospital, he lost his sister, he has been through so many things recently, but he was an absolute professional.”
