Barcelona could have a decimated midfield when they face Napoli in the Champions League, as Frenkie de Jong picked up a calf injury.
Although the second leg of that encounter won’t be until early August, having drawn 1-1 at the Stadio San Paolo, there are already some concerns for the Blaugrana.
A statement today confirmed De Jong has a tear to the soleus of his right leg and “the evolution of the injury will condition the player’s availability.”
This is essentially a calf strain and the extent of the lay-off depends on how deep the tear is.
We already know that Barcelona will be short-staffed in midfield for the second leg against Napoli, because Sergio Busquets and Arturo Vidal are suspended.
